Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 30
Judging approach: policy maker
Policy priority: Equal
Evidence philosophy: quality
Paradigm: I am a policy making judge. I will vote on the impacts and of the case in a real world scenario, similar to a congressional policy option. Just as a congressional debate focuses on the merits of a bill, the central issue of the debate is whether the affirmative plan is a good idea or not, and most importantly WHY. I view the stock issues as part of an interactive process. An advocate of policy change must demonstrate the significance of problems, inherency, solvency, advantages and topicality and show how they all weave together to form a comparatively advantageous policy option. The affirmative must show that the proposed change is better than the status quo or any proposed alternative. It is the burden of both teams to demonstrate the importance of where my vote, as a judge, swings. Teams must compare and stress the importance of competing policies. I will vote purely on the round at hand, and purely on the debate as it is relayed by both teams. I refrain from intervening, pre-dispositional interpretation of evidence and arguments. What I hear is what I evaluate.
