Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 10
Judging approach: stock issues
Policy priority: Equal
Evidence philosophy: equal
Paradigm: I was trained to focus primarily on stock issues, placing a very high emphasis on upholding them on the affirmative, and calling them into question on the negative. I vote on Topicality, Significance/Harms, Inherency, and Solvency. In addition, calling into question the plan, and off case arguments hold weight. I have no interest in Kritiks or Counterplans- we are given a resolution, and have no choice but to debate within that framework, so why waste time arguing against it? In order for a DA to hold any weight, it must clearly outweigh the harms of the affirmative case and be unique to the affirmative plan. The affirmative has the burden to uphold every stock issue- losing on one results in a win for the negative. Drops of substantial issues by the affirmative result in automatic wins for the negative. However, in order for an argument to be voted on, the negative should carry it throughout the round (especially rebuttals). I LOVE when the negative splits the block.
