Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged: 8
Judging approach: policy maker
Policy priority: Issues
Evidence philosophy: equal
Paradigm: I believe that the quantity and quality of evdience are of equal importance because news changes day to day, it is important to stay updated with legit sources!!! I believe more evidence the better. It is hard to base a decision from the ideas of one sourse. The outlook of situations are different from person to person depending of there political views, because words can be twisted just right. I like the student to show me their plan will work and why. Quality is VERY important. BLOGS are not what I am looking for. I need facts that can not be changed by a third grader. I like all prep time to be used by both teams. There is time to look through more than one source. I do not like to see the same attack, give me more that one reason. As far as the communication style, I am looking for students who go down the flow, stay calm, watch ummm's,road maps voters, and are not rude or disrespectful. There is a difference between confident and sassy. I am looking for a student to be dressed nice, not showing boobs, butt, belly, or anything to that nature. Hair out of face, and no huge "bling".

LD

Rounds judged: 10
Approach: Equal
Philosophy:
LD gives students a chance to really show their style of communication and thought process. I am not looking for evidence unless it is NEEDED. I want students to show me why their value is more important than the other and apply it to their case, not just one contention. I do expect to see a value AND criterion. I want students to use all of their time speaking, not reading since evidence is not needed. LD students NEED to use all of there CX time to form arguments to use their time, but please do not apply the same argument to every contention/subpoint. I am looking for students who go down the flow, give road maps, voters, and are not rude or disrespectful. There is a difference between confident and sassy. I am looking for a student to be dressed nice, not showing boobs, butt, belly, or anything to that nature. Hair out of face and no huge "bling".
