Judging Philosophy

CX

Rounds judged:
Judging approach: tabula rosa
Policy priority: Issues
Evidence philosophy: equal
Paradigm: I believe that debate is a game of strategy. I am a tab judge and will vote on anything as long as you can back it up. Stock Issues- Have fun with them. Do not be reliant on them. I want to see a broad number of arguments. Run harms, solvency, inherency, topicality. Run them all. Disads- The more the better. Disadvantages are beautiful in debate. A disad, when used as part of a more sophisticated strategy can be enough to push a debate team from the mediocre category to the great category. Please give me internal and specific links. Counterplans- These are great. They provide for better debate and allow the negative team to play the advocacy game. Show me competition, and advantages. Kritiks- Run them! Philosophy is fun. It can challenge the very basis of either teams ideas or way of advocacy. If you are going to run a Kritik know the basics behind them. Theory- Have fun. Theory provides a whole new insight to the debate process. I do not err aff or neg on theory. ethos, pathos, and logos- Know who your authors are. Know what they stand for. Ethos play as much a part in debate as logos. Pathos are a little trickier to use but if you want to go for it.
