Judging qualifications:
I have been involved in UIL for over 25 years. I began as a high school student competing in speech events and then taught high school before coming to Texas Tech University where I served as the UIL Regional Director for Region 1. I had a state winner in poetry interpretation during my coaching and numerous district winners. I've assisted at state tournaments for speech. I was not involved in judging during my time as a regional director because of possible conflicts. I continue to keep informed on speech events because of a love for how communication skills enhance the lives of all students.

Approach: Issues
Philosophy:
I am troubled to answer this with conviction because although communication skills are important the student must present resolution for the best out come. I've judged students with handicaps who may have weakness in communication yet they presented clear, concise resolution. Therefore, I believe both communication and resolution are important to guiding a judge's decision but I would be able to allow for handicaps.
