Judging Philosophy

Rounds judged: 0
Judging approach: policy maker
Policy priority: Equal
Evidence philosophy: equal
Paradigm: I believe that no matter which style of debate is used, the participants must use accurate and timely material to prove their cases. For example - if material used for proof comes only from Wikipedia, I do not consider the debater has done significant research. I also look at the rate of delivery used. Cramming a lot of information into a positional statement can ofter harm the point being made. A fast rate of delivery harms the debater's ability to enunciate properly, which leads to their not being understood. A quality debater knows how to delivery their points in a clear, concise manner that shows they have command of their material and themselves. I look debaters who are actively listening to the whole debate, not just their own words. This will be seen as debaters take notes while others are speaking, watching other debaters speak, and taking time to think before giving any form of responses that are allowed.

Rounds judged: 0
Approach: Equal
I expect all debaters to know their own arguments well, know both the positive and negative aspects of the issue, be prepared with well researched proof that is timely and from credible sources, and are able to speak in a clear, smooth manner. I expect all arguments given to be addressed to the merits of the topic, not to the aspects of other debaters. Personal attacks and judgement calls are poor arguments for any side of an issue.
