Munoz and Malone Join League Team

This summer, UIL welcomed new staff members to the League team. Among them, Glenda Muñoz was hired as an administrative assistant in the academic department, and Mervin Malone as a Senior Mail Clerk assisting the entire office.

Before joining UIL, Muñoz worked as the administrative coordinator at the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC) in San Marcos after graduating from Texas State with a degree in sociology.

“Upon graduating, I wanted to help change the world in social services and began a wonderful experience at HCWC,” Muñoz said. “During my five years [there], I realized my administrative strengths and shifted from direct services to office management and event planning duties.”

She said she takes pride in her can-do attitude and ability to see obstacles as opportunities to learn, and looks forward to getting to know her co-workers, especially her four fellow administrative assistants.

“The entire academic team is excited about Glenda joining us,” Jeanne Acton, journalism director said. “She has already proven herself as a valuable asset with her fresh ideas and commitment to serving the students and teachers of the state.”

In her spare time, Muñoz takes pleasure in scrapbooking, decorating and spending time with her family, including her high school sweetheart husband and their two-year-old son, Nicholas.

“I’m excited to join everyone here to make a difference in the education and learning experiences of students,” Munoz said. “I want to help students extend their education beyond the school bells.”

Austin native Mervin Malone, who is joining the staff as the senior mail clerk, worked at the UT School of Biological Sciences in various positions for 13 years.

Malone graduated from UT- Austin with a degree in journalism and is a published musical journalist. He said he takes pride in his six-year stint as an information writer for the school, as it helped him to maximize his journalistic and writing skills.

Outside of work, Malone enjoys listening to dance music — especially house, broken-beat and disco. Additionally, he takes joy in show tunes, kitsch and films “with a high visual aesthetic.”

Malone said he hopes his outgoing and eclectic personality will contribute to the office atmosphere at UIL.

“I want people to feel that I'm easy to work with and enjoy new challenges,” Malone said. “I also want anyone that's worried or stressed to feel comforted when they talk to me. If I help ease the stress of any situation, I want to do just that.”
Jason Castillo, the mailroom supervisor, said Malone is a great addition to his staff.

“Mervin brings such a positive attitude each day to work,” Castillo said. “His outlook and upbeat personality fits in great with our team in the mailroom.”
