Once events are over and state championship trophies are handed out only one award is left to present, the UIL Lone Star Cup.

The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes high schools – one in each of the UIL classifications – based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned activities. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included for contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup.

“The UIL Lone Star Cup honors the best overall academic, athletic and music programs in the state of Texas,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt. “It takes contributions from every student, teacher and coach in all facets of UIL competition to win this outstanding award. The winning schools and communities should be proud of this incredible achievement.”

In Conference 5A, Southlake Carroll High School won its fifth overall and third consecutive UIL Lone Star Cup earning 115 total points. The Dragon boys and girls cross country and boys swimming and diving teams each took home state championships while the volleyball team advanced to the state semifinals. Southlake Carroll placed fourth overall at the Academic State Meet and had two boys golf teams finish in the top four at state.

With state semifinalist teams in girls soccer and volleyball and a state runner-up finish in boys swimming and diving, Friendswood High School secured its third overall Conference 4A Lone Star Cup victory. In addition to regional semifinalist finishes in boys and girls basketball and baseball, the Mustangs also placed fifth overall at state in academics and marching band.

Argyle High School’s excellence in academic, athletic and music competitions propelled the Eagles to the top of the UIL Lone Star Cup standings for the third year in a row and fifth time overall. The reigning Conference 3A marching band state champions also captured football and academic state championships and were state runners-up in girls basketball, boys golf and baseball.

After a late season rise in the standings, Salado High School captured its second consecutive and third overall Conference 2A UIL Lone Star Cup win. The Eagles excelled in the spring winning state championships in academics and boys golf and placed second overall in girls golf and one-act play.

With state championships in softball and boys and girls golf, Weimar High School ascended to the top of Conference 1A winning the second consecutive and third overall UIL Lone Star Cup in school history. The Wildcats also advanced to the state semifinals in girls basketball and regional finals in baseball.
